We the parish of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Lansing, Michigan, respectfully acknowledge that we meet and worship on the traditional and contemporary land of the Anishinaabeg People, known as the “Three Fires Confederacy” of Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi people who are bound together through common language, culture, kinship, and diplomacy. We wish to pay our respects to their elders both past and present. With much appreciation, we thank the Anishinaabeg for their stewardship of this land throughout history. We also acknowledge the many acts of violence, hatred, and genocide which we non-indigenous people have perpetrated upon the Anishinaabeg throughout generations. We also wish to affirm respectfully and reverently Indigenous sovereignty, history, culture, and experiences.
Given on this 21st day of November in the year of the Great Creator, 2023.
